A Lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor Callistus Ibe has urged Nigerian Youths to develop their critical thinking skills which would enable them to be creative and innovative and by extension job creators instead of job seekers.

Prof Ibe gave this advice while addressing Nigerian youths during the 6th Annual Maritime Students and Youth Conference held recently in Lagos

Speaking as Father of the Day at the Occasion, the university don maintained wealth is dependent on the ability to create it; hence, he urged the youth to maximize the 21st century knowledge and skills which they had learnt by becoming entrepreneurs.

“My dear students, who are presumably the future potentials that would occupy the various positions in the Maritime Industry in Nigeria, the ship is now anchored. You are therefore welcome on board to a future safe destination, where you would be indispensible actors and actresses because of your skills, inputs, service delivery and good will, which you have all it takes to convert into marketable commodities and services for others to buy thereby creating wealth for yourselves.

“The time to create wealth is now. You should understand that wealth is dependent on the ability to create it. Therefore, develop your critical thinking skills, dream dreams, be creative and innovative. All the 21st century knowledge and skills, which you have undoubtedly acquired would, no doubt, enable you to become entrepreneurs and by extension job creators rather than job seekers. In this way, you would develop your financial intelligence which is ultimately wealth.

“Today, the organizers of this Conference have selected seasoned technocrats in the Maritime Industry as your mentors, please tap into their wealth of experiences and become the future experts of the Maritime Industry.

“My distinguished students, you see, the greatest values of having good people around you is not what you get from them momentarily, but the better person you become in future as a result of their positive impact on you based on their knowledge and experiences. This is the gain that usually accrues from association.

“I have no doubt in me that the organizers of this 6th AMSAY Conference 2002 want you to become better professionals and better people, hence this gathering of different professionals with different experiences and students from different schools offering maritime studies in Nigeria to come together and interact in a conference of this nature.

“You cannot get it better than this. This is a rare opportunity in ones academic life time. Most of us your mentors now never had this kind of opportunity.

“I, therefore, urge you to make good use of this privileged opportunity and ensure that you maximize the greatest value of having experienced professionals so that you can in turn become better professionals in future. You have been prepared to receive the greatest value because you have good and experienced professionals from the Industry as mentors. This is the take home of this 6th AMASY Conference 2022.

“Go home and become better technocrats and wealth creators by creating values wherever you find yourselves because you have interacted with the best professionals in the Industry”, he admonished.
