Immediate past President of Women‘s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA Nigeria), Mrs Mary Madu Hamman has been nominated for a special maritime industry honour known as Face Of Maritime International Role Model Ambassador 2021.
Until her retirement in November 2020, Mrs Mary was the Deputy Director, Cabotage Department of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); District Women leader, Church of the Brethren Lagos, Church Adviser of Local Church Council of EYN Lagos; Deputy National Coordinator, Nigerian Women Business Network; and the President of WISTA Nigeria between 2016-2020.
In a press statement sent to newsmen in Lagos today, the Executive Director, Face Of Maritime International (FOMI), Mr Sylvanus Obasi revealed that the annual industry sole Honour will be conferred on Mrs Mary at the 2021 edition of FOMI Night of Beauty & Women Empowerment scheduled to hold on Sunday, Nov 14, 2021 @Piccadily Suites, Agungi-Lekki Lagos.
Obasi further hinted that since Mary’s nomination was announced early this week, a lot of maritime stakeholders have been sending numerous congratulatory messages to her and to FOMI, describing her nomination as well deserved following her immense contributions in championing gender advocacy in the maritime sector, especially during her days as President of WISTA Nigeria.
Mrs Mary will take over the mantle from Hajia Lami Tumaka who was so honoured last year. And for the next one year, she will play a mentor’s role to FOMI queens and other young women who wish to take maritime career path.
