The Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko; popular Nigerian Nollywood veteran actor, Mr Ugorji Temple also known as T.Temple, and the Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr George Moghalu have made the top list of nominees for the 2021 edition of the popular Nigerian Sheroes and Hereos (NISH) Award.
This is even as the Director, Cabotage Services Department of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs Rita Uruakpa; Human Resources Manager of L.T.T Coastal and Marine Services Ltd, Mrs Thedora Nwaeze amongst others have also been nominated for the Maritime Amazons Award (MAA).
According to a press statement released today by the organisers, Face Of Maritime International (FOMI) and signed by its Executive Director, Mr Sylvanus Obasi, other notable Nigerians nominated in the category of the NISH Award are the Registrar, Council For the Regulation of Freight Forwarding In Nigeria (CRFFN), Barr Samuel Nwakohu; rising film-maker, cinematographer and TV Presenter, Miss Busola Olu, and a maritime legal luminary, Chief Emmanuel Osuala Nwagbara.
Others include the Secretary-General, Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Ports State Control, Capt Sunday Umoreen, as well as the Provost, Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT), Dr Chuks Onuoha.
Meanwhile, other nominees in the Maritime Amazons Award categories include: Zone A Coordinator of the Nigeria Customs Service, ACG Modupe Aremu; the Women Leader, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Mrs Funmi Hannah Fasan; and the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the Nigerian Shippers Council; Hajia Rakiya Dhikru-Yagboyaju.
Speaking about the two award categories, Mr Obasi hinted that the Nigeria Sheroes & Heroes (NISH) Award is a yearly special recognition award designed to honour outstanding and courageous men and women who have risen from zero to hero in their fields of endeavors; people who have used their talents, professions or good positions to champion noble courses and by so doing affected the lives of many Nigerians positively such that they can be called Heroes & Sheroes of our time.
Whereas the Maritime Amazons Award is designed to identify, celebrate and honour inspiring maritime women who have shattered the proverbial glass ceiling in their maritime careers or field of endeavours in order to use the success story of these uncommon women to encourage the younger generation of women in maritime career path.
Obasi further revealed that the award nominees were were chosen based on their uncommon achievements in their respective fileds of endeavours.
He added that the award honours will be conferred on the nominees at the 2021 edition of FOMI Night of Beauty & Women Empowerment scheduled to hold on Sunday, Nov 14, 2021 @Piccadily Suites, Agungi-Lekki Lagos.
