There is no doubt that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Nigerian Maritime Admnistration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigeria Maritime University and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are the choicest maritime agencies which contestants of Face Of Maritime International prefer to represent in the ongoing FOMI 2020 Contest.
This is obvious going by the number of contestants who indicated interest to represent these 4 agencies out of a total 25 maritime organizations listed for them to choose from.
According to FOMI tradition, the contestants are usually asked to choose any of the shortlisted maritime organizations they would like to represent in the contest and write an essay of about 300 words on what they know about the organization and why they want to represent such organizations in the FOMI contest.
According to Platform Reporters, organisers of the maritime industry pageant, at the close of work today being the deadline for the submission of the essay, a total of 5 contestants have submitted their essays, indicating interest to represent the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
While a total of 4 contestants indicated interest to represent the Nigerian Maritime Admnistration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and another 4 for the newly created Nigeria Maritime University respectively.
Whereas 3 contestants are jostling to represent the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
Organisations like Women International Shipping And Trading Association (WISTA), and the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) each have two contetants interested in them while the remaining maritime organizations have one Contestant each.
Analysing the development, the Director of FOMI, Mr Sylvanus Obasi said the essays would be sent to the concerned maritime organizations to mark and choose the preferred contestants they would like to sponsor in the ongoing Contest.
He added that each organization is allowed to sponsor and feature only two contestants in the contest for now but the number could increase in years to come.
Obasi also revealed that that the list of FOMI contestants who progress to the next state of the Contest and the maritime organisations sponsoring them would be unveiled in two weeks time.
Recall that Face Of Maritime International is an industry pageant of international standards which uses role modeling to promote gender equality and advocates for greater participation of women in maritime careers through it’s pet project called the Girls Go-To-Sea Campaign (GGOTSEC).
FOMI Contestants are young ladies aspiring for maritime careers who want to participate in the contest to gain basic knowledge and exposure into the world of maritime.
