The management of Platform Reporters, organisers of the popular Face Of Maritime International (FOMI) pageantry has announced the immediate appointment of Miss Umo Ekei Inyang, a 26 years old indigene of Cross River state as the current Ambassador of Face Of Maritime International (FOMI).
The 5.3ft inches tall Ekei Umo represented the Women In Maritime Africa (WIMA) during the FOMI 2019 contest and was one of the contestants who made it to the FOMI Grand Finale held in October last year.
In a press statement signed by the FOMI Director, Mr Sylvanus Obasi stated that the exit of Queen Emri Justina as FOMI Ambassador due to her admission and permanent relocation to Calabar for academic activities, necessitated Ekei’s appointment as her replacement in the Pageant office of FOMI in order to effectively carry out the roles of FOMI Ambassador which academic activities would no longer allow Queen Justina to function in that capacity.
Mr Obasi further affirms Queen Ekei’s appointment as a suitable replacement for Queen Justina going by the fact Ekei is already a graduate of Marine Engineering from a maritime academy, adding that with her experience and knowledge of the industry she is better positioned to undertake the roles and functions of FOMI Ambassador which include:
1. To facilitate and organise mentorship sessions/seminars for maritime students and aspiring young maritime professionals.
2. Mobilise maritime schools and students to participate in the Annual Maritime Students and Youth Conference.
3. Embark on any other project that will benefit maritime students, young maritime professionals and further advance the development of maritime industry in Nigeria.
According to Platform Reporters, Ekei’s appointment takes immediate effect following her crowning and enthronement reception marked with a photo shoot session held last Friday in Lagos with the two other FOMI queens.
In her acceptance letter, Queen Ekei promised to give her best for the continuous progress and expansion of FOMI. Adding that she would work together with FOMI organisation and use her office to reach out to as many young and aspiring maritime students as possible in Nigeria.
