Uzoigwe Melissa, an indigene of Enugu state and a graduate of accounting from Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) has won the Season 4 edition of Face Of Maritime International (FOMI) held last weekend in Lagos.
Melissa, a 23 years old who represented the Maritime Workers Union Of Nigeria (MWUN) gardened a total of 21,786 votes to beat the rest of the contestants.
Meanwhile, Emri Justina, a 22 year old indigene of Cross River state, who represented the Nigeria Customs Service emerged the 1st Runner up with a total of 5,700 votes, whereas Obodozie Adeze, a 20 year old indigene of Imo state who represented the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) emerged the 2nd Runner up with a total of 4700 votes.
Similarly, in the award category, Nelly Nene Eche, a 24 year old indigene of Benue state and NCE holder who represented Women In Logistics and Transport (WILAT) won the Top Model Award sponsored by De-Frank Global Resources, Marketers of Q7 cosmetic products.
While Ikeru Happiness, an indigene of Imo state who represented the Nigerian Railway Corporation won the Hajia Bola Muse Maritime Leadership Award which was sponsored by Hajia Bola Muse, the CEO of Bomarah Group.
Whereas Hassana Musa, a 27 year old indigene of Edo state won Ocean Deep Maritime Academy Intellectual Award sponsored by Mrs Rollens Macfoy, Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Deep Services Ltd.
For emerging the overall winner of FOMI 2019, Uzoigwe Melissa went home with the star prize, comprising of a salon car and N500,000 cash prize. Whereas the first and the second runners up won N300,000 and N200,000 Naira respectively. Even as winners in the award categories won #100,000 each.
Recall that Face Of Maritime International is a beauty pageant of international standards which advocates greater participation of women in maritime professions.
Speaking at the Grand Finale, the Founder and Director of Face Of Maritime International, Mr Obasi Sylvanus said that FOMI aims to change the perception that maritime is all for men.
He added that the FOMI queens would champion the Girls Go-To-Sea Campaign (GGOTSEC), organise mentoring sessions for maritime students and promote Nigeria’s maritime tourism potential as their pet-project during their one year reign.
