The Leadership of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has asked for peace, reconciliation and cordial relationship when it visited Dr Mrs Jane Shoboiki, Customs Area Controller of Muritala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigerian Customs Service.
Speaking in Lagos on Thursday during the visit, the National President of NAGAFF, Chief Uche Increase in his opening remarks, commended the CAC for the infrastructural improvements at the command.
He stated that the aim of the visit was to consolidate on the cordial relationship between the command and NAGAFF as an association.
He highlighted historical background of how NAGAFF was formed and the situation that necessitated its formation, and also enumerated the achievements of NAGAFF since formation.
Speaking further, Mr Uche stated that NAGAFF Founder saw a need for NAGAFF leadership to make the reconciliatory visit to right the wrong of the past. He pleaded the CAC to put behind the miss understanding of the past in order to move forward as friends.
He urged the CAC to look into the crises going on in the Command and treat NAGAFF members in the chapter as friends.
The NAGAFF helmsman, used the occasion to draw government attention to Apapa gridlock, and urged government to divert vessels to the Eastern Ports to ease Apapa gridlock.
Responding, the CAC, Dr Mrs Shoboiki said she was glad that NAGAFF paid her a visit because customs alone can’t do it all as other stakeholders are needed to make things better.
She denied reports that she was giving preferential treatment to other freight forwarding associations at the detriment of NAGAFF members.
On her past relationship with NAGAFF, she assured the association that she has forgotten what happened in the past, saying that she never had a personal issue with NAGAFF except in the course of her job which she said she had already put that behind her the moment she left that post.
Speaking further, Mrs Shoboiki charged NAGAFF leadership to train her members so they would perform better in the course of their job, even as she assured NAGAFF of total corporation in as much as NAGAFF members would corporate with the customs command.
She also harped on the need for customs agents and freight forwarders to make correct declaration and avoid dubious tendencies.
Responding to the strained relationship she had with the immediate past Airport Chapter Chairman of NAGAFF, Mrs Shoboiki told NAGAFF to advise its past Airport Chapter Chairman, Mr Segun Musa to be more matured in dealing with people and issues .
She however commended the current NAGAFF Airport Chapter Chairman and his Secretary, describing them as gentlemen. She said there was no negative reports about them, and pointed out that those who elected them made a good choice.
She equally admonished NAGAFF to be gender friendly in her elective positions because she didn’t see much female members in her entourage.
Regarding the Apapa gridlock, she maintained that the federal government was doing its best to tackle the challenges.
On the aspect of revenue generations she revealed that her command has been meeting its revenue targets up to date, thanks to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Hameed Ali whom she commended for entrenching integrity in customs operations which has brought good public perception of customs.
Also speaking, the BOT Chairman of NAGAFF, Chief Chidiebere Enalema commended the positive change he observed in the command. He urged the men of the service at the command to give maximum support to the CAC to enable her achieve her mandate.
