It was awesome! It was thrilling! It was hilarious and fantastic! Yes, it was another Girls Go-To-Sea Campaign program last Wednesday at Mosan Okunola LCDA in Ipaja area of Lagos, South-West Nigeria. The event also coincides with the birthday of FOMI 2nd Runner up queen, Peace Michael.
Once again, The Face of Maritime International (FOMI) Queens showed their passion for enlightenment and creating awareness to secondary school girls about career opportunities for girls in the maritime industry with a view to encouraging them to take to sea by studying maritime related courses at their tertiary education level.
This time, the invited Guest Speakers were Barr Mrs Obiageli Obi, Director General, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping and Mrs Susan Okonji, Assistant Chief Maritime Safety Officer of NIMASA who is a marine engineer herself.
Recall that Girls Go-To-Sea Campaign (GGOTSEC) is the pet-project of Face Of Maritime International, and is managed by Platform Reporters. The Project was officially flagged off on June 6 at Osborne School Complex ,Ikoyi by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala Usman.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of Platforms Communications and Project Director, GGOTSEC, Mr Sylvanus Obasi said the next visit would be at Ikeja LGA, Apapa/Iganmu LCDA and Lagos Island East LCDA, all in Lagos state.
